Hi, and welcome!
First and foremost, if you’re looking for a therapist, you should feel free to shop around. Therapy is a relationship, so if you don’t feel totally comfortable with a therapist (including me), you shouldn’t feel obligated to stay. I offer a free session so that you can see if I’m the right therapist for you.
I work with adults, either individually or as a couple. You might be feeling a lot of emotions: sadness, depression, anger, anxiety, guilt, shame, stress, exhaustion, confusion, numbness, hopelessness. You might be struggling with excessive substance use. You might be stuck in the same, conflict-destined pattern with your partner. You might be wondering, “Is this how my life was supposed to turn out?” In fact, we live under constant stress, spending our days keeping “busy” doing things that we “have no choice but to”—to keep a roof over our heads, put food on our table, put gas in our car, provide for our children, etc. And we’re supposed to feel. . . happy?
But, there are paths towards happiness, contentment, fulfillment. . . whatever state you prefer. If you know why you’re feeling the way you are, great. If not, that’s great, too. Either way, we’ll be exploring inside and out—focusing solely on ‘feeling better’ won’t be in your best interest in the long run. If you need surgery, an anesthetic definitely helps. But you still need surgery.
I won’t have all the answers. In fact, I would rarely, if ever, have any answers for you. And I shouldn’t—you are sovereign. That doesn’t mean I’ll just sit around, but rather, I’ll actively help you deepen your understanding of yourself and the world around you. You’ll then get to a point where you’ll know where to go, and your symptoms will change accordingly. I will continue to walk with you as you walk towards a new direction.
If you’re seeking evidence-based therapy, you’ve come to the right place. That was my research area for over 20 years. And, I can tell you that the only evidence that ultimately matters is your own improvement. Science, and especially social science, can’t guarantee your improvement, nor can any therapist. If you’re not improving, then it’s probably time to shop around (again).
I do virtual and in person. I currently take the following insurances (VT):
BlueCross Blue Shield
CBA Blue
Green Mountain Care
Medicaid
Medicare
Optum Behavioral Care
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to meeting you!
