Welcome!
Being a therapist isn’t everything that I am, but because the main purpose of this site is to tell people what I do for a living, I’ll start with that.
I’ve been licensed as a psychologist since 2006. Until May of 2025, my primary source of income wasn’t from being a therapist, but from teaching therapists as a professor of psychology. (And writing papers. Yes, those esoteric ones. You won’t want to read them.)
I decided to pursue private practice full time to finally practice what I’ve preached for over two decades: work-life balance. It’s what I’ve lectured to all my students and worked on with many clients, and yet, I hadn’t really prioritized it myself. As each year passed by, I was getting busier and busier doing things that I didn’t enjoy because I continued to say yes out of obligation towards my profession.
Then, within a period that retrospectively feels like a blink of an eye, a marriage and two little ones happened. If there’s anything I learned from psychology, it’s that children need attention. Like, a lot of attention. Thankfully, I wasn’t ignorant enough to notice that I wasn’t giving them the attention they deserved.
It was much easier giving up my former work identity thanks to all the help I received, both ‘professional’ and not, but it required a lot of owning—where I currently am, where I really came from, and where I truly want to go. As a psychologist, I now feel more in touch with the realities of the human psyche through my work with my clients than with any paper that I’ve read or written.
I live in Brattleboro, VT, with my wife and two children.
Tak
